In 2025, Salt of the Earth received the King's Award for Enterprise: International Trade. It recognised 137% growth in international sales over three years and exports to 35 countries, from Greece to Malaysia. His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson Esq, presented the award to Managing Director Thomas Laird at the Chandlers Ford factory on 14 October 2025. Salt of the Earth was one of just 197 organisations nationally to receive the honour that year.
In 2026 came a second King's Award, this time for Sustainable Development. The King's Award for Enterprise, established in 1965, is the UK's most prestigious business award, so two in two years is no small thing for a small family company in Hampshire. The team does not take it lightly.

Salt of the Earth's UK-manufactured sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms are certified 100% COSMOS Natural by the Soil Association, which means every ingredient meets a strict, independently audited natural-origin standard. The whole own-brand range is approved by the Vegan Society and approved by Cruelty Free International.
The Crystal deodorant range is a single natural mineral (potassium alum), so it sits outside COSMOS certification, and it is made in China rather than in Hampshire. It is still Vegan Society and Cruelty Free International approved. A short history of a long-running brand
The business began in 1993. Sally bought it in 2005 and ran it from home, her son Thomas took the reins in 2008, and Stuart still advises on strategy. Salt of the Earth launched one of the UK's first refillable spray deodorant systems in 2013, long before refills were remotely fashionable. Today the refill range spans sprays, roll-ons and sticks, and refill pouches cut packaging by up to 85% compared with buying new bottles each time (by weight).
More than three decades in, the company is still independent and still family-run from Chandlers Ford, where solar panels installed in April 2026 are estimated to provide around 45% of the factory's electricity over a year. In sunny months like May and June 2026 they covered around 70% of the factory's electricity use directly, with the surplus exported to the grid. The trophies are lovely, but they have not gone to anyone's head (or armpits).
