Natural deodorant

Sprays, roll-ons, sticks, balms and crystals from a Hampshire family business that's been at this since 1993. Our sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms are certified COSMOS NATURAL by the Soil Association, so “natural” means something you can check.

*Sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms. Our crystals are registered with The Vegan Society and approved by Cruelty Free International.

Same job, five ways to do it. Pick the one that fits your morning.

  • Natural deodorant sprayRefillable

    Natural deodorant spray

A light mist with no rubbing in. Easy to share, and nobody has to swipe after anyone else.

  • Natural roll-on deodorantRefillable

    Natural roll-on deodorant

Rolls on: no mist, no fuss. Most scents come in our refillable roll-on, and the standard roll-on is there if you'd rather not refill.

  • Natural deodorant stickRefillable

    Natural deodorant stick

    Aluminium-free

Solid and creamy, so it's one less thing for the airport liquids bag. Buy the case once and refill it.

  • Natural deodorant balm

    Natural deodorant balm

    Aluminium-free

A soft balm in a tin. Warm a little between your fingertips and smooth it on.

  • Crystal deodorant

    Crystal deodorant

One ingredient: potassium alum, a mineral salt. Wet the crystal, swipe, done. Potassium alum is an aluminium salt, so we'll never call it aluminium-free.

Does natural deodorant work?

It does the job a deodorant is for: tackling body odour. What it won't do is stop you sweating. No deodorant does, natural or not, and that's where most of the confusion starts.

  • How does our natural deodorant work?

Fresh sweat barely smells. Odour comes when bacteria on your skin break sweat down. Our sprays, roll-ons and crystals are made with potassium alum, a mineral salt with a long history as a deodorant. Our sticks and balms use bicarbonate of soda, with shea butter, coconut oil and arrowroot to help them glide on.

  • What to expect when you switch

You'll still sweat. That's normal: it's how your body keeps cool. Some people find it takes a week or two to feel settled with a new deodorant, and you'll see that sold as an “armpit detox”. We can't find good evidence that your armpits are detoxing anything, so we won't promise you one. Our advice is simpler: give it a fair go, put it on clean, dry skin, and top up if you need to.

  • Why isn't natural deodorant working for me?

    1. Start clean. Deodorant works best on clean, dry skin, not on top of yesterday's.

    2. Top up. Reapplying in the afternoon is completely normal.

    3. Try another format. Our sprays and roll-ons use potassium alum, and our sticks and balms use bicarbonate of soda. If one doesn't suit you, the other might.

    4. Check your shirt. Some fabrics, especially synthetics, can hang on to smells even after washing.

Still stuck? Tell us. We'd rather help you find the right one than have you give up.

What makes our deodorant natural?

Here's the awkward bit: “natural” has no legal definition for cosmetics in the UK. Anyone can print it on a label. So instead of asking you to take our word for it, we have our products checked.

  • COSMOS Natural, certified by the Soil Association

Our sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms are certified COSMOS NATURAL by the Soil Association. COSMOS is an independent international standard for natural and organic cosmetics. It looks at where ingredients come from and how they're processed, and it sets rules for packaging, manufacturing and waste too.

Our crystals aren't COSMOS certified. They're registered with The Vegan Society and approved by Cruelty Free International.

Natural deodorant FAQs

What is natural deodorant?

A deodorant made with ingredients of natural origin. “Natural” has no legal definition for cosmetics in the UK, though, so it can mean different things on different labels. Our sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms are certified COSMOS NATURAL by the Soil Association, an independent standard that looks at where ingredients come from and how they're processed. Like any deodorant, it tackles odour; it doesn't stop you sweating.

Is natural deodorant an antiperspirant?

No. An antiperspirant reduces sweating, usually with aluminium salts such as aluminium chlorohydrate. A deodorant, natural or not, tackles odour and lets you sweat as normal. Everything we make is a deodorant.

Why isn't my natural deodorant working?

Usually it's one of four things: it's going on to skin that isn't clean and dry, it needs a top-up later in the day, the format doesn't suit you, or your clothes are holding on to old smells. Our sprays and roll-ons use potassium alum and our sticks and balms use bicarbonate of soda, so switching between them is worth a try. Still stuck? Get in touch and we'll help.

Are natural deodorants better than antiperspirants?

They do different jobs. If you want to sweat less, an antiperspirant does that and a deodorant doesn't. If you're happy to sweat as normal and want to tackle odour with independently certified natural ingredients, a COSMOS Natural deodorant gives you that. The best one is the one you're happy wearing.

Is natural deodorant aluminium-free?

Not always, and ours isn't across the board. Our sprays, roll-ons and crystals contain potassium alum, a mineral salt that contains aluminium. It isn't the aluminium chlorohydrate used in antiperspirants, but it is an aluminium salt, so we don't call those products aluminium-free. Our sticks and balms are aluminium-free: they use bicarbonate of soda instead of potassium alum.

Is crystal deodorant aluminium-free?

No. Crystal deodorant is potassium alum, which contains aluminium. You'll sometimes see crystals sold as aluminium-free. We don't describe ours that way, because it isn't accurate.

Can natural deodorant irritate your skin?

Any cosmetic can irritate someone's skin, natural or not. If you get redness or itching, stop using it. Some people find bicarbonate of soda doesn't agree with them. It's in our sticks and balms but not in our sprays, roll-ons or crystals, so those are worth trying instead. Don't put deodorant on broken skin.

Can I use natural deodorant after shaving or waxing?

Freshly shaved or waxed skin is more sensitive, so give it time to settle first, and never put deodorant on broken skin.

Are natural deodorants safe?

Every cosmetic sold in the UK has to pass a safety assessment by a qualified safety assessor before it goes on sale, natural or not. Ours are no exception.

Are your deodorants vegan and cruelty free?

Yes. Every deodorant we sell is registered with The Vegan Society and approved by Cruelty Free International. Read our Cruelty Free International statement.

Where are your deodorants made?

We make our sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms in our own factory in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire.
