Spiced Gingerbread is back. Our most-requested seasonal scent returns for the colder months as a refillable natural deodorant spray and roll-on, in a limited edition batch that, if previous years are anything to go by, will not hang around for long. It is the same award-winning fragrance you have been asking us about since roughly the first cold morning in September, and it is available now.
Salt of the Earth is a family-owned natural deodorant brand making deodorants in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire since 1993. Spiced Gingerbread is made there like the rest of our sprays and roll-ons, and both versions are certified 100% COSMOS Natural by the Soil Association, registered with the Vegan Society and Cruelty free International.
What does Spiced Gingerbread deodorant smell like?
Freshly baked gingerbread, in a bottle. Sweet orange and cardamom open it up, peach and cinnamon sit in the heart, and a base of cedarwood, vanilla, tonka bean and patchouli gives it the warmth that makes it feel like a winter scent rather than a dessert. It is sweet and spicy without tipping into sugary, which is the bit our perfumer got right and the reason people keep coming back for it.
Like all our fragrances, it comes from natural essential oils and botanical extracts, not synthetic perfume. So the cinnamon in the bottle is cinnamon, and the orange is orange. We think that is why it smells like a kitchen on a Sunday afternoon rather than a scented candle.
Why is Spiced Gingerbread back by popular demand?
Because the moment it disappears each winter, the emails start, and they keep coming until it is back. We launched the Spiced Gingerbread spray in October 2023 as a one-off seasonal experiment. It went on to win Best New Vegan Beauty Product at Natural & Organic Products Europe 2024, which rather settled the question of whether we would make it again.
In autumn 2024 we brought it back and added a refillable roll-on alongside the spray, because the roll-on crowd had been very clear about feeling left out. The requests kept coming. So here we are, three winters in, and Spiced Gingerbread has become the nearest thing we have to a tradition. Why is it a limited edition?
We make one seasonal batch, and when it is gone, it is gone until next year! That is partly practical, because a gingerbread deodorant in July is a hard sell, and partly because we like the idea of a scent that belongs to a particular time of year. If you want it for the whole of the cold season, it is worth stocking up now rather than in December.
Which Spiced Gingerbread deodorant should you choose?
The spray if you want speed and a lighter scent on the skin; the roll-on if you prefer the classic feel and a slightly warmer, closer fragrance. Both use the same water-based formula as the rest of our range: potassium alum, a naturally occurring mineral salt, to help keep odour-causing bacteria in check, with triethyl citrate, magnesium minerals, organically grown aloe vera and rosemary leaf extract. They are deodorants, not antiperspirants, so they tackle odour rather than blocking sweat.

The original. The Spiced Gingerbread Natural Deodorant Spray is a 100ml pump spray (no aerosol), quick to apply and dry in seconds. At 100ml it sits exactly at the UK hand luggage limit, so it can come on the Christmas market trip to Germany with you.
Spiced Gingerbread Refillable Roll-On 75ml
The Spiced Gingerbread Refillable Roll-On is our standard 75ml refillable bottle, so it fits a coat pocket and gives you the slightly warmer, closer version of the scent. Give it 30 seconds to dry before you pull a jumper on.
Can you refill Spiced Gingerbread deodorant?
Yes. Both bottles are our normal refillable spray and roll-on, which we have been making since 2013. There is no Spiced Gingerbread refill pouch, because it is a seasonal batch, but once your bottle is empty you can top it up from any of our spray or roll-on refills in whichever scent you fancy next. Does it make a good gift?
Yes. A Spiced Gingerbread spray or roll-on is a small, useful, slightly silly present that works as a stocking filler, a Secret Santa under a tenner, or a "thinking of you" in the post. It is also a gentle way to introduce someone to natural deodorant, because the first question they ask is "what is that smell?" rather than "what is potassium alum?".
