The Inspiring Journey of 'Girls That Jog' with Laura!
By Jade Dawes

Hey!
My name is Laura, I am the creator of girls that jog.(@girlsthatjog)

A little bit about me… my background is in Psychological therapies and research in the NHS. Wellness means a lot to me, and I recently learned that I can help people outside of my day job too in other ways. Outside of work, I voluntarily run a community in Cambridge called girls that jog. I was recently asked to be a brand ambassador for lululemon, meaning I have scope to do even more in the community and have an even wider impact. The aim of girls that jog, is solely to connect people with each other and with themselves.
Running for me, provided a space where I could navigate my emotions through a difficult time, and so I wanted to provide a safe space for others to use it in whatever way they need.
I moved to Cambridge 4 years ago, off the back of lockdown, and found that is was not easy to meet people organically. Therefore, my motive for creating this group was to allow people the chance to connect with their community, as this is where I found some of my now closest friends. Girls that jog is not just a running club, it is a place to meet friends, connect with other people, move our bodies in whatever way we need, and to feel good about ourselves in a non judgemental space. My goal is to reduce the stigma that may come with running, to remind people that we do not have to look or act a certain way, it is not necessarily the speed or distance that matters, but the feeling we get and the positive impact it has on our lives. A year ago I organised my first run, and 0 people showed up. This was not a reason for me to give up, because I knew there was a gap that needed to be filled.. so I tried again.
